Lunch and Learn Program Summary

The purpose of the Lunch and Learn program is to create a schedule that reflects a culture of self-efficacy and trust among our students and staff. The Lunch and Learn program aligns with our goal of providing an exceptional Methacton School District Experience for all.

Lunch and Learn is a dynamic initiative designed to provide students and staff with time to address academic, social-emotional, and future preparedness. Through the Lunch and Learn schedule, students have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of activities that are carefully curated to align with students' interests, needs, and academic goals including:

  • Learning Center Office Hours: Students use this time to receive academic support, make up missed work, and connect with teachers/counselors.
  • Academic Workshops: Interactive workshops led by teachers and/or guest speakers that cover a diverse range of subjects including STEM, arts, and career readiness.
  • Guest Lecturer Presentations: Inspiring talks and presentations delivered by professionals, community leaders, and alumni that provide real-world perspectives on trending topics.
  • Skill-Building Sessions: These events are focused on developing a student’s essential skills such as study techniques, time management, leadership, and communication skills.

The core advantages of the Lunch and Learn schedule:

  • Teaches and models skills needed for collaborative and self-directed lifelong learning;
  • Provides opportunity for collaboration in an atmosphere of trust and mutual accountability;
  • Contributes to and supports a higher “quality of school life”.

The success of a Lunch and Learn schedule is dependent on three key factors: planned activities, available locations, and schedule implementation. While Methacton High School possesses the organizational capacity to develop a schedule, the effectiveness of Lunch and Learn activities is directly influenced by the available space within the building and its proximity to the cafeteria and other food service areas. The current space limitations pose a significant challenge to the seamless implementation of Lunch and Learn at Methacton High School. To overcome this challenge, it is imperative to develop a comprehensive campus plan that strategically addresses the need for appropriately sized and strategically located spaces to facilitate the successful execution of the Lunch and Learn program.
